Our goal from the very beginning was to create a community of individuals who wanted to make a difference in bringing Hope to others. After Kathy and Les made 5 trips and myself (John) 3 trips to the Dominican Republic it was clear to us that working with the Haitian community was where we wanted to start. Welcome to our What Color Is Hope Community! It's happening!
In April 2016, 14 people from British Columbia and Washington State pulled together for 10 days to buy building supplies and carry cement blocks, gravel, sand, to build cement columns to strengthen the second floor of an orphanage.
We held 3 medical clinics by Dr Hal and Nurse Kathy, bought months of food, cut rebar for reinforcing the concrete columns, provided 31 pairs of shoes for the kids in the orphanage for school, provided a months food supply for 25 families in a remote village, played games and handed out candy to a ton of kids. We ended our trip spending two days in the Colon District in Santo Domingo.
The team ranged in age from 8 years old to 70 years young. Grandparents/grandkids, mother/daughter, father/daughter, 3 guys and some couples played and worked together creating memories that would last a lifetime.
We invite you to come with us on our next trip.
